University of Michigan Science Olympiad
My ultimate goal is to inspire young students to pursue STEM fields and instill in them a lifelong love of learning. I also aim to create a space for underrepresented students to experience the full extent of the Science Olympiad program. Instituting more inclusive admission policies, offering financial support for underrepresented teams, and eliminating the need to provide any testing materials are just a few policies that further this goal.
The positive influence of Science Olympiad was a large part of my decision to pursue mechanical engineering, and I hope to provide that same experience for the next generation of scientists and engineers.
From fall 2021 - spring 2023, I was the executive director of the University of Michigan Science Olympiad Tournament. UMSO is one of the largest university-run tournaments in the country, hosting 30 Middle School and 60 High School teams totaling over 1300 students!
In this role, I connected internal club involvement and external coach and team experiences. I facilitated all communication with coaches, providing necessary information to make tournament day run as smoothly as possible. I also managed internal logistical aspects of the tournament like ensuring quality event tests, procuring spaces, and coordinating the placement of over 400 volunteers.
